Brecia
is deliciously enrapt in a love affair with fiber. Her color
palette is reminiscent of a childhood surrounded by Arizona desert. Movement,
synergy and spirit are incorporated into each piece reflecting her years
as a dancer and choreographer. She creates work that conveys a sense of deep
richness akin to a habitat, with it's unique history
and
memories, then invites the viewer to look deeply and experience a sense
of discovery. Luscious layers create a textural tempest of color as
she blends techniques and materials, coaxing vessels, wearables, and sculptures
into being using knitting, dying, felting, weaving, spinning, basketry, paper
making, and surface design.
Brecia lives, creates, and writes in Santa Barbara, California. She teaches workshops and exhibits internationally.
