NICKI BAIR
www.nickibair.com

Nicki began weaving in 2002 after the passing of her mother who was a fiber artist in the Wine Country of California. She inherited her mother’s looms, supplies, inspiration and drive. Nicki is currently intrigued by tapestry and taquete techniques with a penchant for geometric structures most notably circles and mazes. Her looms are never empty and her dogs always close by.

A recent series of tapestries were inspired by a class in Celestial Navigation. As she began to weave her Celestial Series, she realized that celestial navigation, like weaving, is a connection with the past. There is something quite comforting knowing that, like the sailors of yesterday, we can determine where we are; without the need of GPS.
All that is needed…
• A compass to determine the bearing.
• A sextant to establish the altitude and
• That special moment in time when both the horizon and the stars are visible.

That special moment in time is often depicted in Nicki’s celestial tapestries. In addition to tapestries Nicki creates delicate two and three dimensional pieces woven with sewing thread.

You can see more of her portfolio and read her blogs at www.nickibair.com.
