Noriko Kage Fink
Noriko is a Japanese National. She originally studied weaving in college under Kyoko Kumai, a textile artist in Japan who uses stainless steel fiber as a medium. After relocating to San Diego in 2001, she graduated from UCSD with a bachelors in art and computing. She then worked for various companies in graphic design before joining Palomar Handweavers’ Guild in 2013 which is when she became focused on tapestry.
“I feel fiber has an uncanny character which stimulates my imagination. At the same time, it also has a stereotyped notion of flatness when we talk about a sheets of fabric. I’m experimenting with how I can apply the uniqueness of dimension into my work by creating something fun and unexpected.”
